New Accessibility Workshops this Fall

Build Access into Your Art Practice | Thursday, September 10th 6 - 9 pm EST

This is the first workshop in this series and offers an introduction to making accessible events and performances. It is designed for artists, producers, creators and anyone interested in offering public events. This workshop offers a great starting point for anyone beginning their journey of accessibility or have specific questions about how to practically plan to make their events more accessible.

Experimenting with ASL Shadow Interpreters | Sunday, September 13th 10 am – 4:30 pm
In person – Arts Court Theatre, 2 Daly Ave, Ottawa, ON
The second workshop in the series is in person and offers an introduction and practical experimentation to work with ASL and Deaf interpreters, actors and coaches. This workshop includes a Roundtable Discussion, presentation and demonstration of working with interpreters, and more specifically Shadow Interpretation. Shadow Interpretation is where the interpreters are matched with one performer and are integrated into the blocking of the theatrical scene making their presence part of the aesthetics onstage. This is followed by a catered lunch and an afternoon Masterclass format where those participants who have signed up as an actor or director will have the opportunity to enact a scene and work with Deaf and hearing interpreters, actors and coaches.
This is a rare opportunity in Canada to have time to work with interpreters and work collaboratively on this form of interpretation. Come be part of this inaugural workshop.

Working With Audio Describers | Tuesday, September 29th 6 – 9 pm EST

This last workshop in this series is designed specifically for Blind and Low-vision community members who are interested in being a consultant for live performance. This workshop will support participants in learning the skills required of Blind consultants and how they work with Audio Describers. This workshop while designed for the active participation for Blind and low-vision community members, those curious to learn more about Audio Description are also welcome to observe this workshop.
