Invitation: interactive, virtual artist talk with Jordan Danger

You’re warmly invited to join Jordan Danger for an online presentation celebrating a year as the City of Ottawa’s Artist in Residence in Government!

This lively session is designed especially for artists who are curious about creative sustainability, eager to cut down on artistic waste, or ready to explore the potential of working with salvaged and reclaimed materials instead of buying new...and for those simply intrigued by the Artists in Residence in Government pilot program.

This will be the first in a series of virtual gatherings, and it’s going to be a great way to connect, learn, and share ideas. In this first session, you can look forward to:

An artist talk by Jordan Danger, including a sneak peek at the upcoming exhibition

Key findings from Jordan’s residency: insights into working with salvaged and upcycled materials

Practical action plans for how artists can support each other in reducing waste in our own studios

An open group discussion about actions we can take, individually and together, to make an impact

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jordan Danger (she/they) is a Canadian sculptor, illustrator, and ceramic artist whose award-winning functional and sculptural works explore emotional and cultural landscapes through form, shape, and colour. With more than a decade of ceramic practice following a decade of painting and illustration, Jordan brings both technical precision and expressive depth to their work.

Recently completing a year-long Artist in Residence with the City of Ottawa’s Waste Services Department, Jordan developed a body of work rooted in salvage, transformation, and sustainability. Their sculptures have been shown in municipal and commercial galleries, including solo exhibitions at the City of Ottawa Archives (2024), Shenkman Arts Centre (2018), and Nepean Visual Arts Centre (2017). Their work has been featured in Ceramics: Art + Perception magazine and is held in both private and public collections.

Jordan’s next solo exhibition—featuring creations from the municipal arts residency—will debut in February 2026. A lifelong learner, they are completing the Ceramics Intensive Program at the Haliburton School of Art + Design and hold two previous college diplomas, along with training in the TALL Teaching Certificate from Algonquin College. They have studied with renowned ceramicists Rene Petitjean, Jai Sallay-Carrington, and Jessica Steinhäuser, blending traditional and contemporary approaches in their work.
