In celebration of summer, when the natural world is abuzz with activity and sensation, OGPC presents Beautiful Bugs, an exploration of spiders, insects and other bugs.

Spiders and insects have long been a compelling subject for art. Scarab beetles populate ancient Egyptian art and moths land on flowers in 17th-century Flemish still lifes. Dragonflies symbolize happiness and courage in Japanese woodblock prints and Louise Bourgeois’s monumental spider nurtures and protects her young. Spiders and insects are endlessly captivating both for their rich mythologies and for their fascinating forms, iridescent colours, gossamer wings and polished carapaces.

Beautiful Bugs showcases 20 hand-pulled prints made by 13 members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers' Connective.
