Opening night will be electric indeed! The Ontario premiere of POWEr by Artificiel will harness the beauty of pure energy while two live 3D events will push the boundaries of technology in performance. Local sextet Kingdom Shore will present a new collaboration with video artist Christopher Payne.  Payne’s custom software has been adapted to visualize their chaotic human energy onto the screen in a unique sterescopic performance. There is more 3D from Willy Le Maitre, who has authored an abstract universe to transport you away. A rare and special night not to be missed.

Edia

Willy Le Maitre has created time-based intermedia works since 1988. His real-time narrated media presentation, Edia, explores the topologies of information space in stereographic format. Edia is an entity that distributes the self in a constellation of points around the globe, exploring the notion of a distributed self and its relative psycho-geography.

Kingdom Shore & Christopher Payne

Kingdom Shore, comprised of musicians Nathan Medema, Simon Guibord, Jasmine Landau, Greg Horvath and Mark Molnar present their unique blend of anxious and climactic string arrangements and cinematicsoundscapes. An unexpected mix of classical instrumentation and electronic audio, Kingdom Shore invites you to "Bend closer friends. Let us go".

Christopher Payne received a BFA Specialization in Film Production from Concordia University's Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in 2007 where he studied experimental cinema and electronic art. Payne has been exploring the possibilities of real-time manipulation of stereoscopic imagery for the last two years.

POWEr

POWEr is a performance based on highvoltage electromagnetic perturbations conceived of by Alexandre Burton and Julien Roy of Artificiel. Using an audio-modulated Tesla coil as a live instrument, electrical arcs are generated and transformed in an ongoing, realtime audiovisual process that renders electricity as a subtle yet intense material. POWEr is a commission for the 10th edition of MUTEK in Montreal. This project has been supported by the Canada Arts Council and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. It was nominated for Berlin's Transmediale Award and Sao Paulo's File Prix Lux in 2010.
