The Ten Short Films Festival continues with Day 2 on Sunday, May 10th (Mother’s Day) at the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa. Doors open at 3:00 PM, with screenings from 3:20 PM to 5:30 PM.
This program features a curated selection of short documentary, drama, and comedy films by local filmmakers. Many of the works explore themes of women and relationships, including mothers and daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters, trans women, mothers and sons, and women navigating grief.
The festival began as a personal screening to bring my short film Forget Me Not home to my family after it won Best Film and Best Story at the Digi60 Film Festival (Winter 2025). The film was created as a way of processing grief after losing my grandmother to dementia, and as a way to preserve the memories we shared.
What started as a small, intimate screening on her birthday grew into a larger community event, inviting local filmmakers to share their work alongside it. That spirit continues with this Ottawa edition, creating space for meaningful, personal storytelling and connection through film.
At the end of the screening, audiences are invited to vote for their favourite film through a People’s Choice Award. Winning films will go on to screen at the Fox Theatre in Toronto.
