Threads and Things
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from noon to 1:30 p.m., for a lunchtime embroidery with the Ottawa Queerly Sewcial Circle.
As part of the public programming for the Canada Council Art Bank’s Resistant Fibres exhibition, Heather, @moon_maid_embroidery, will be present to share embroidery techniques, answer questions, and engage in conversation around her artistic practice.
The Canada Council Art Bank is inviting you to join them during your lunch hour to learn how to embroider your own felt patch (all materials provided). You will learn tips and tricks for handling tools and materials, several hand embroidery stitches, and begin stitching your own patches. Finished patches can be added to clothes, bags, or anywhere you’d like to add a handmade embellishment.
Enjoy viewing artworks from the Art Bank collection and meeting other arts enthusiasts. Participants are welcome to drop in and connect with others—no need to make anything unless they wish to.

Artist bio:
Heather, the instructor, has been embroidering for more than 15 years. She is a hand embroidery artist specializing in modern use of traditional and 17th-century needlework techniques.
With a background in conservation biology, her primary inspiration is the natural world, but contemporary embroidery easily incorporates social and pop culture influences.
