Don’t Be Shallow showcases the work of Diploma Students and Alumni from the Ottawa School of Art as they explore the theme of non-literal self-portraits, representing themselves without showing their faces. Through painting, drawing, and mixed media, each artist interprets identity in their own way, using metaphor, symbolism, and material to express who they are beyond the flesh. Presented at Gallery 55, located on the second floor in Ottawa’s ByWard Market District, the exhibition runs from November 4th to 27th, with a vernissage on November 6th. Created as part of their diploma program, these works reflect the students’ ongoing process of discovery and development within their artistic practice. Don’t Be Shallow invites viewers to look deeper and consider the many ways the self can be revealed.
