Studio Space Ottawa: Seeking nominations for Board of Directors

Studio Space Ottawa: Seeking nominations for Board of Directors

Expressions of Interest Due: Monday, October 6th, 2025
Submit To: studiospaceottawa@gmail.com

Studio Space Ottawa is looking for enthusiastic, energetic individuals to join our Board of Directors and help the organization achieve its long-term strategic goals.

Studio Space Ottawa (SSO) operates as a not-for-profit Art Services Organization that rents studio spaces to practicing and professional visual artists. SSO currently accommodates 53 artists in 41 studios, split over two floors. SSO is a place for visual artists and makers at all stages of their career pathways and fosters an environment where people can conduct an independent practice while maintaining a high level of artistic professionalism, personal development, and peer relationships. We achieve this by respecting our organization's goals in four key categories: stability, affordability, inclusive practices, and health and safety. More information on our history and activities can be found here: https://studiospaceottawa.ca/.

Board Members are responsible for ensuring the overall health of the organization, while providing leadership and vision to foster its strength, stability, and evolution. The SSO Board is a 7-member working board with a mandate for a minimum of two external members (non-SSO artists). Board members participate in the following ways:

- Provide leadership and advisory support to the organization, set priorities through long-range planning, and ensure strategic plans are executed.
- Provide oversight to ensure the overall health and financial stability of SSO.
- Attend monthly meetings (12 total), plus the AGM. Meetings are held both in-person and online.
- Commit to a term of two years, with an option to renew for a second term of two years. (Maximum number of consecutive terms is two, i.e. 4 years in total).
- Serve on committees when needed (i.e. Finance, Fundraising, Grant Writing, Open Studio + Art Sale, Governance, Programming events, etc.).

While all applications are welcome, we are especially looking for individuals with expertise in the following areas: financial management, accounting, legal services, contracts, social media, marketing and promotion, fundraising, governance, non-profit management, and community outreach. We also strongly encourage applications from persons who identify with marginalized communities and/or intersecting identities.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a one-page letter of introduction and current resume to studiospaceottawa@gmail.com no later than Monday, October 6th. New members to the Board of Directors will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting to be held in late October.

Questions should be directed to studiospaceottawa@gmail.com or Christos Pantieras, current Chair of the SSO Board of Directors, at christos.pantieras@rogers.com.
