The representation of animals in art has a long and rich history of symbolism. Through Indigenous tales, classical mythology, biblical stories and many other traditions, animals convey important information about a society’s shared values and world view. Animal Allegories brings together works by 13 members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers’ Connective. Made using a variety of techniques, these 19 fine art prints explore the role of animals in historic and contemporary visual culture.

La représentation des animaux dans l’art a une longue et riche histoire de symbolisme. Dans les contes autochtones, la mythologie classique, les récits bibliques et bien d’autres traditions, les animaux transmettent des informations importantes sur les valeurs communes et la vision du monde d’une société. Allégories animales rassemble les œuvres de 13 membres du Collectif d’artistes-graveurs d’Ottawa-Gatineau. Réalisées à l’aide de diverses techniques, ces 19 estampes explorent le rôle des animaux dans la culture visuelle historique et contemporaine.
