About the exhibit.
The St. Anthony of Padua Church and community is pleased to be organizing an art exhibit featuring religious-themed art by local Ottawa artists. Artist and exhibit organizer, Lucia Alloggia, put out a call on social media for religious themed artwork, and these are the artists who responded.
This art exhibit is being held in memory of Padre Ferraro and to showcase local artists who work with religious and spiritual themes in their art.
The Pastor of the church, Padre Gino (Fr. Gino M. Leonardi, OSM), is sponsoring this event as one of the many festivities honouring the life of Padre Girolamo Ferraro, who helped transform the Italian community in Ottawa. During the 50s and 60s, there was a surge of Italian immigrants and Padre Ferraro was there helping it grow. From translating letters to filling out returns, he helped the Italians settle in their new lives. When Padre Ferraro died in 1972 at the age of 55, the parish lost an advocate, social worker, spiritual leader, and friend.
The exhibit will be open to the public December 3-27 on Saturdays 1-4pm and Sundays 9-12pm, in the basement of the church.
