The Art of Feltmaking
Techniques, textures, and personal projects with Hannah Ranger
Wednesday, September 24th & Thursday, September 25th, 2025 | 11:00am–4:00pm

Discover the art and versatility of feltmaking in this immersive two-day workshop with textile artist Hannah Ranger. Designed for beginners and experienced makers alike, this workshop is open to all levels and offers the chance to learn a distinctive approach to contemporary feltmaking.

Day 1 – Technique Immersion
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will explore a wide range of feltmaking processes:

Making prefelt and flat felt

Embellishing surfaces with varied materials and prefelt

Needle felting on flat felt

Closed vessel felting with resists

Exploring resists in surface design

Colour layering and carving felt surfaces

Nuno felting with silk fabrics for translucency and drape

Dry needle-felted sculpture

By the end of the day, you’ll have a collection of sample pieces and ideas for potential projects.

Day 2 – Personal Project Development
The second day is dedicated to creating your own project based on the techniques that most inspire you. We’ll begin with a group discussion of project goals, and then participants will spend the day working independently with Hannah’s one-on-one guidance and support.

Materials & Cost

All tools and studio equipment are provided.

Day 1 materials are included in the workshop fee.

Day 2 materials are purchased individually, based on the needs of your chosen project.
