Ottawa Artist Ava Margueritte Explores Mental Health in New Series ‘Landfall’
The Shenkman Arts Centre presents ‘Landfall’, a dynamic new analog photography series by Ottawa-based artist Ava Margueritte. Landfall is a group of 24 stunning images - portraits and natural environment paired together to aid in the exploration of mental health, personal identity, and our connection to nature.

Margueritte’s series plays with memory and the fine line that the analogue camera walks between romanticization and documentation. Her process results in deep and introspective imagery that has been described as romantic and nostalgic. The beauty of her work creates a visceral reaction within the viewer.

‘Landfall’ began as a personal project to process and grieve Margueritte’s experiences with chronic mental health as a neurodiverse individual. Over the past year, she documented her journey of coming out of burnout and rebuilding herself. The title, ‘Landfall’, reflects this passage: the end of a storm, the coming in from the sea, and the completion of a journey. Although the portraits and landscapes are not literal depictions they represent a similar sentiment.

Experience Landfall at the Shenkman Arts Centre from September 15-November 7, 2025, with a Vernissage on Tuesday, September 16, 6-8 PM.
