Lenni Workman

Dubois Bio + Statement:
Ariane Dubois lives and works in the Montreal region. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University, where she studied with Jean McEwen and Tom Hopkins. Of her work she says, "For several years, I have continued my pictorial research, drawing inspiration from the landscape as a place of meditation. ... Through their suggestive imagery, my paintings address the presence of [the] four elements, generators of life, intrinsic bubbling, and introspection."

Hatton Bio + Statement:
Sarah Hatton was born in England and raised in Barbados and Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen's University, and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary. She says of her work, "My deep interest in human nature and my insatiable curiosity about the natural world are found throughout my paintings and mixed media work. ... Through my paintings and projects, I observe and explore notions of longing, transition, mortality, and human connections with nature."

Oomen Bio + Statement:
Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Hilda Oomen completed a BFA from Queen's University in 1984. After almost a decade living and working as an artist in Toronto she relocated to a rural setting to immerse herself in lanscape painting while also cultivating a passion for large scale gardening.
"My art is deeply connected to my lifelong passion for gardening. Flowers, both as individual subjects and within broader landscapes, captivate me with their energy and life force. ... Just as gardens quiet the mind and awaken the senses, I hope my paintings offer a similar sense of presence and tranquility."

Tredenick Bio + Statement:
Shaelynn Tredenick is the newest additon to the roster of artists at gallery St-Laurent + Hill. Tredenick is a photo-based artist in Ottawa, Ontario. She is an emerging artist, having a graduate’s diploma in Photographic Arts + Production at the School of Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO), as well as the Photography program at Algonquin. She says of her work, "I feel compelled to scan. The creative freedom takes over me needing to style familiar florals into a new modern-day piece. ... I create out of emotions and sensations before thinking of a narrative. Whoever is observing my body of work should create their own story."

Workman Bio + Statement:
Lenni Workman was born in Belleville, Ont., and grew up on a farm just north of there. She studied Art History at Queens University, graduated from St. Lawrence College, Kingston, in 1973, and has been exhibiting paintings since then.

My work is a Request.
A request to the viewer to look and look again, don’t stop at superficial information.
A request to notice how time and light transform your visual world.
Experience that a still-life or a room acts as a sun-dial.
A request to see the alignment of the micro and macro worlds: how much a reflecting
jar of water resembles the photographs we see of our galaxy.
A request to see that we humans are part of this complex and fragile natural web of life.
A request to concentrate and dream at the same time. Just for a moment, hang your
soul up on a bough with apple blossoms.
A request to marvel at the power of a seed to put out roots and the power of a bud to flower.
Allow this observed power to energize your efforts to conserve nature on our planet.
Let the perfection of a moment of light summon the awe and love that it deserves.
