RAYMOND AUBIN, RICHARD PERRON + RICHARD ROBESCO sans objet: un renku photographique

RAYMOND AUBIN, RICHARD PERRON + RICHARD ROBESCO
sans objet: un renku photographique
(without subject: a photographic renku)

16 March to 30 April 2023
Galerie Montcalm, Gatineau

You are invited to attend the opening of a new exhibition titled “sans objet : un renku photographique” (“without subject: a photographic renku”) by Raymond Aubin, Richard Perron and Richard Robesco, at the Galerie Montcalm in Gatineau, Québec, on Thursday, March 16th from 7 PM to 9 PM. The three artists will be present.

Renku is a collective form of Japanese poetry rooted in Zen. Aubin, Perron and Robesco have transposed this literary genre to photography by creating a sequence of 54 photographs over a period of twenty months. Through this work, they question the character of uniqueness of the artwork and of its creator.

They present this sequence in a variety of forms from the visual, media, and digital arts in the gallery. Those include a frieze of photographic prints; an accordion book as a sculpture; a video showing the renku one diptych at a time; a series of words linking the images of the renku, both spoken and printed; and an interactive application by which anyone can contribute to a community renku.

On the evening of March 16th, they will also launch a book, published by the Éditions Cayenne, that presents the 54 photographs, diptych by diptych. The book is prefaced by François Chalifour.

The exhibition continues to 30 April.

The Galerie Montcalm is located inside the Maison du Citoyen (City Hall) in the Hull Sector, at:
25 rue Laurier
Gatineau, Québec
