November 8 to 27, 2024 - Wednesday to Saturday noon to 6 pm; Sunday noon to 5 pm
Vernissage: Saturday November 9, 1 to 5:30 pm
Galerie Old Chelsea is pleased to present Robert Bradley, originally from Newfoundland and living in Chelsea, who is a proud graduate of the Ottawa school of Art Fine Arts Diploma program. Robert served many years and numerous deployments with the Canadian Army as a Combat Engineer. While undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress Injury, Robert was introduced to art therapy, finding the exploration of spirituality with a paintbrush to be a powerful healing method. …
For Bradley, the oil painting process itself is a therapeutic process. He initially loosely sketches the subject using charcoal. He then applies layers of oil paint respecting differences in value and allowing drying time between each layer. Of course, this means that some paintings can take up to weeks or months to complete.
In Bradley’s artwork, the eye becomes the focal point both in his compositions and artistic detailing. This focus on their eyes in turn engages the viewer and becomes a flight or fight moment for the animal with its alert perspective looking at our world. That moment of stress is fascinating to Bradley.
Robert explains that painting and sculpting provide him with a therapeutic process, requiring total concentration and making it very hard to think of about anything else besides the piece that he is working on.
We invite you to meet Robert Bradley to take in his powerful show.
